"State Secret" (also known as "The Great Manhunt" in the United States) is a British thriller film released in 1950, directed by Sidney Gilliat. The plot follows Dr. John Marlowe, an American surgeon lured to a fictional Eastern European country under false pretenses to operate on their ailing dictator. When the dictator dies during the surgery, Marlowe finds himself a target of the state, accused of murder and forced to flee for his life. With the help of a local actress and a double agent, he embarks on a perilous journey to escape the totalitarian regime. The film stars Douglas Fairbanks Jr. as Dr. Marlowe, Glynis Johns as the actress, and Jack Hawkins as the menacing Colonel Galcon.
