"The Twonky" is an American science fiction comedy film released in 1953, directed by Arch Oboler. The plot revolves around Cary West (Hans Conried), a professor who purchases a new television set, only to discover that it has a mind of its own and starts controlling his life. The Twonky, as it is called, enforces a strict schedule, dictates Cary's diet and even interferes with his romantic life. As Cary tries to outsmart the machine, he learns that the Twonky is actually a futuristic robot sent back in time to prepare humanity for a new world order.
