Rififi (1955)
"Rififi" (French: Du rififi chez les hommes) is a 1955 French crime film directed by the American blacklisted filmmaker Jules Dassin. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Auguste Le Breton. It stars Jean Servais as Tony "le Stéphanois," an aging gangster who teams up with three other criminals to pull off a seemingly impossible jewelry heist in Paris. The film is most famous for its iconic 30-minute heist sequence, shot in near silence with no dialogue or music. This sequence has been praised for its meticulous planning, technical precision, and suspenseful execution. "Rififi" was a critical and commercial success, winning the Best Director award at the 1955 Cannes Film Festival.
