"Father Brown" (released as "The Detective" in the United States) is a British mystery comedy film released in 1954, directed by Robert Hamer. The plot follows Father Brown, an unassuming Catholic priest with a keen intellect and a knack for solving crimes, as he matches wits with a cunning jewel thief named Flambeau. The film is loosely based on G.K. Chesterton's short story "The Blue Cross." It stars Alec Guinness as Father Brown, Peter Finch as Flambeau, and Joan Greenwood as Lady Warren.
