#Harrowing footage captures the moment a plane #crashed and caught fire shortly after taking off from an airport in Nepal. All passengers perished; only the captain survived.

The plane took off yesterday (July 24) from the southern end of the runway, made a sharp bank, and crashed, with its wingtip striking the ground first.

The #planecaughtfire on impact and skidded into a gorge east of the runway, between an aircraft hangar and a radar station.

According to Civil Aviation Minister Badri Pandey, a freight container severed the cockpit from the main fuselage just before the main body hit the ground, likely allowing the captain to survive.

Nearly 360 people have died in plane or helicopter crashes in Nepal since 2000.
