The First Populist March On Washington, D.C. : A History Lesson For Our Time

The panic of 1893 led to millions of people losing their jobs, resulting in widespread suffering. While Coxey's Army and  Kelly's Army were separate but related groups of unemployed workers who marched at the same time in 1894. Author Jack London joined Kelly's Army, also called the Northwestern Industrial Army, it started in California and marched towards Washington, D.C. Thousands of marchers all following a similar goal of protesting unemployment by marching to Washington, D.C.
