Due to the Emerald Ash Borer, a Ministerial Order has been issued by the Federal Government restricting the movement of wood out of Ottawa and Gatineau. The City of Ottawa is asking that you do so with care. We all play an important part in limiting the spread of this invasive species
Watch for signs of infestation, which include:
Leaves and dead branches in the upper part of ash trees
Overall tree decline and unusually thin tree crowns
Branch and leaf growth in the lower part of the stem where growth was not present before
Bark splitting. Check for S-shaped grooves beneath the bark, caused by larval feeding
D-shaped exit holes 3.5 – 4 mm wide caused by adult beetles
Unusually high woodpecker activity
Report any suspected cases of EAB to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency at 1-866-463-6017
Do not transport any firewood or ash products outside of the area outlines in the Ministerial Order
If removing any ash trees, consult a certified arborist or forest practitioner
Plant a new tree
Buy your firewood locally.
