Batman: Caped Crusader Gets Gender-Swapped Villain

It was announced in the upcoming Batman animated series, Batman: Caped Crusader, that the character of Penguin will be female and no longer called Oswald Cobblepot but instead be Oswalda Cobblepot.

Actress Minnie Driver who will be voicing the character says her version is just as evil as the original character. However, the question to be had is why it’s even necessary to change things to begin with. In a similar vein the Rocksteady game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League intentionally leaned into the identity politics side and that was met with disastrous results.
