Trey Knowles: Tattoo’s but Still Loved - Truth & Knowledge
Truth & Knowledge: Episode 71 – “Tattoos but Still Loved”
In this episode, Trey Knowles tackles a thought-provoking topic: Tattoos might be permanent — but God’s love is even more permanent.
Trey makes it clear: he’s not saying tattoos are “acceptable” in a religious sense. What he’s saying is deeper — what God has made clean is clean indeed. He doesn’t have any tattoos himself, but that doesn’t make him any better than someone who does.
He reminds us that who a person was is not who they are now. We’ve all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory — but through Christ, we’re made new. The old life is gone, and a new life has begun.
Trey uses a vivid allegory to make his point:
“What if God told me to go and fellowship with people covered in tattoos — even on their faces?”
Would he say, “No, Lord, that’s forbidden, they’re unclean”? Of course not. Because God’s response is clear:
“Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”
Trey challenges the modern-day Pharisees — those who sit comfortably in church pews but refuse to show love to others who look different. He reminds us that some people’s pasts are visible, but that doesn’t make them any more sinful than the rest of us. Our sin might just be invisible.
He warns that the same way we deny others, God can deny us. As Jesus said in Matthew 5:20:
“Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.”
Trey isn’t attacking denominations — whether you’re Seventh-day Adventist, Jehovah’s Witness, Mormon, Pentecostal, Evangelical, or anything else — he’s asking a bigger question:
If we can’t love and fellowship with people who have tattoos, how can we truly say we belong to Christ?
He points us to Acts 10:9–23, where Peter receives a vision from God showing that nothing He has made should be called impure. Just like Peter had to unlearn his prejudice, so must we learn to see others through God’s eyes.
Because at the end of the day, no matter what’s inked on your skin — you are still loved.
