Greenville deputies justified in fatally shooting armed suspect with a rifle shooting into a house

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office released body cam footage from a deadly deputy-involved shooting that took place on June 15.

The sheriff’s office responded to a 911 call about a disturbance on Arch Street on the west side of Greenville.

In a review of the incident, the 911 call starts with someone asking another person to “turn it down”, apologizing repeatedly and talking about an ego. The dispatcher tries to get information, but the caller isn’t responding and continues to ramble. This went on for several minutes.

During the call, several gunshots can be heard in the background.

Body cam video shows a deputy arrive on scene and approach a home, but she runs back after hearing shots fired.

“He was firing into the house and yelling at somebody,” the first deputy said. “We need to see if we have a victim [in the house].”

In a second angle of body cam footage, a second deputy walks towards the house. The deputy spots a suspect holding a semi-automatic rifle and opens fire in fear that the suspect is firing at someone inside.

The sheriff’s office said no victim or any other person was located on the property.

The suspect, 55-year-old Ronald Dean Beheler, passed away on scene. His manner of death was ruled as a homicide by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.

According to an internal investigation, it was determined that the sole deputy that fired their weapon was justified to use deadly force.
