A BBC Radio adaptation of what is considered Leo Tolstoy's last major work.

While serving on a jury in a murder trial, Prince Dmitri recognizes the defendant, a prostitute, as a girl whom he had seduced and betrayed many years before. When she is found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment in Siberia, he blames himself for her predicament and tries to get the verdict reversed, beginning his own journey of anguish and redemption. His efforts are to no avail, and he decides to follow her to Siberia.
