The Second Sign of Jonah and the Rejection of the Messiah**
A few days after these words were spoken came the second sign of Jonah—the resurrection of the Messiah. However, this miraculous event would be met with rejection in the first seven chapters of the Book of Acts.
In Acts 2, we find the Apostle Peter passionately preaching the resurrection of Jesus. Yet, the culmination of this rejection is marked by the stoning of Stephen in Acts 7, signifying the official repudiation of Jesus' messiahship by the leadership of Israel. This pivotal moment is why the gospel, initially confined to the Jewish world, only begins to reach non-Jews after Acts 8.
### Exploring the Precondition to the Second Coming
In light of Israel's rejection, we turn our attention to a critical question: what is the precondition to the second coming of the Messiah? What must be fulfilled before Jesus can return?
We'll explore this through several key passages, starting with Leviticus 26:
**1. Subjugation and Captivity**
- Fulfilled in the days of the judges and during the Assyrian and Babylonian captivities.
**2. Worldwide Dispersion**
- As a direct result of rejecting the prophet like unto Moses, the Jewish people experienced a worldwide dispersion.
By the end of Leviticus 26:39, these elements are historical facts. Yet, Moses writes in verse 40, "But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, with their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, and that they also have walked contrary to Me."
**Leviticus 26:40-42** reveals that the fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenant's promises, particularly concerning the borders of the Promised Land, hinges on this confession. This singular, specific sin, continued from their ancestors, must be confessed.
### Jeremiah 3:14-18 and the Messianic Kingdom
In Jeremiah 3, verses 14-18, Jeremiah lists the blessings awaiting the Jewish people in the Messianic kingdom:
- **Verse 14**: Jews will be brought back to the land individually until all are home.
- **Verse 15**: Righteous shepherds will lead with knowledge and understanding.
- **Verse 16**: The ark of the covenant will no longer be necessary.
- **Verse 17**: God, through the Messiah, will rule from Jerusalem.
- **Verse 18**: Judah and Israel will unite, never to split again.
These millennial blessings are conditioned by the confession mentioned in **verse 13**: "Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have transgressed against the LORD your God."
