Was Degas an Impressionist? -236

Degas exhibited with Monet’s group which had the appellation “Impressionist” but he abhorred painting nature as his metier. He said his art was artificial with an accent of truth. Where does that leave him?

QUESTION: Would you describe Degas as an impressionist? I think he saw his work as something different.
