As with painting the entire operation of seeing is reduced to color-values. Painting by means of the visual and not the actual, ‘real,’ content is based on that certainty, underlies impressionism. The idea of a ‘naive’ eye is precisely about knowing, using, nothing of the non-visual characteristics of physical objects. The alternative is to use, master, the visual stuff, the color-values and their activities and relationships.
