Homolka's little sister, Tammy, 14, died drugged out of her mind at the hands of her older sister and her then-husband Paul Bernardo. Homolka had "gifted" Tammy to Bernardo as his sexual Christmas present. The trial lasted just a day and a controversial publication ban left the public in the dark.

Homolka would point the finger at Bernardo, a fly-by-night bookkeeper whose hobby was raping women in Scarborough. For whatever reason, people knew. However, Homolka cagily played the role of a battered wife married to a monster.

Stashed away in the roof of their Port Dalhousie home in Ontario were the incriminating videotapes. Homolka revelling in her twisted debauchery. And despite Homolka lying and breaking her end of the deal, the Crown chose not to renege on the deal which would have seen the veterinary assistant jailed for life. Instead, the cold-hearted serial killer was a beneficiary of Attorney General Marion Boyd, who saw Homolka as a victim.

This documentary is a searing investigation into a plea bargain – later dubbed "The Deal With The Devil" – struck between Ontario Crown attorneys and Karla Homolka, who was ultimately convicted of manslaughter in one of Canada's most notorious and grisly murder cases. It shows the profound failure of the justice system that punctures our hearts at the mere mention of her name.

Karla Homolka (whose new name is Leanne Teale) served 12 years in a relatively "luxury" prison compared to her husband locked away in the dreary and drafty, now-closed Kingston Penitentiary. She enjoyed conjugal visits and lesbian affairs while imprisoned. Her days of haunting Canadians will only end when she's buried in the cold, cold ground.
