Yes, deer chew their cud, also known as ruminating, which is a process that helps break down their food before digestion. Deer are ruminants, which means they have four-chambered stomachs that allow them to store food and regurgitate it later. The first chamber, called the rumen, allows deer to eat a lot of food at once and then digest it later. Each chamber adds different substances to the food to help break it down. Deer then regurgitate the food and chew it again in their mouth, often while lying down. This process helps break down the fiber in their diet.
