Where the noisy cannon roar,
On a field of mud and gore
There I lay beneath a rocket lighted sky

Shot and shell around me fell
Sights of death and sounds of hell,

After days of fiercest fighting,

Like an angel form she bore me
To the pleasant land of dreams where Peace holds sway;
