These homes represent more than just property; they symbolize heritage, familial continuity, and economic grounding. Losing these homes due to the rising costs of taxes, utilities, and the general cost of living exacerbates existing socio-economic challenges and causes emotional and psychological strain. In this discussion, we delve into 15 distinct issues affecting Black families as their neighborhoods gentrify, followed by a breakdown of the gradual process of losing a generational home to gentrification and strategies to help families hold on or transition smoothly.
