UAV Lancet drone works with ‘surgical precision’

Lancet pilots work all along the front line. Right now, somewhere along the line of contact, another loitering munition is hovering over AFU hardware and preparing to deliver a crushing blow to the enemy.

Today, the Russian Defence Ministry tells you why the Lancet UAV is considered one of the most effective means of hitting enemy targets.

The Lancet drone belongs to the family of loitering munitions. In the special military operation zone, it is used to destroy armoured vehicles. Russian fighters also actively use these projectiles to strike air defence facilities and other important targets on the front line and in the enemy close rear area.

The Lancet drone is often used in counter-battery warfare. For these tasks, the loitering munitions operate in coordination with ZALA reconnaissance drones. After detecting a target and identifying its coordinates, the Lancet UAV moves to a position, its pilot chooses the angle of attack and engages the target. Meanwhile, the reconnaissance drone keeps a close eye on the enemy and records the result of the fire engagement.

The UAV's unique design allows it to hit enemy positions with ‘surgical precision’. Unlike fixed-wing drones, the Lancet's X-shaped wings allow it to manoeuvre freely in all directions.

Composite materials used in the drone's construction make it undetectable to enemy air defence systems. The Lancet drone is capable of hovering in a specific area, allowing an operator to choose the right time for an effective attack. If the target is not in sight, the drone can be turned back, unlike a guided missile or rocket.

A key feature of the Lancet UAV is its rapid launch from a small ground-based launcher. The UAV has a maximum flight time of 30 minutes and a maximum range of 40 kilometres.
