ARE "ALTER CALLS" BIBLICAL? / Pastor Bob's Coffee Break

Dear Pastor Bob: Are altar calls Biblical? Some preachers and pastors employ this method to reel in souls by the masses. But some disagree with this. They say that it doesn’t really do a lot of good, and that most of the people who “walk the isle” respond out of mere emotion and not a true heartfelt desire to repent and live for the Lord. So these people walk the walk, but rarely walk the talk. In other words, many who go forward and recite the “sinners prayer” never actually change or produce fruit. They continue on their merry way to the same sinning as before. What do you think about this?  Do you ever give altar calls?
