The Supremacy of Christ - Coffee with Jesus Podcast
The Supremacy of Christ
In this video, we explore the profound truths found in Colossians 1:15-23, where the Apostle Paul reveals the divine nature and supremacy of Christ. Paul presents Christ as "the image of the invisible God," emphasizing that Jesus is not just a historical figure or a wise teacher but the very manifestation of God Himself. Christ embodies the full essence of the Father, making the unseen God visible and knowable.
The passage also describes Christ as "the firstborn over all creation," signifying His preeminence and authority over everything that exists. Far from being a created being, Christ is the Creator, and all things were made through Him and for Him. This video delves into the awe-inspiring reality that Jesus, the originator of all life, chose to become part of His creation to redeem it, ultimately being exalted above every name. Join us as we reflect on the majesty and redemptive power of Christ in this powerful scripture.
Moreover, the term "firstborn" emphasizes inheritance and purpose, indicating that Christ is the rightful heir of all creation. Everything in the universe exists for His glory, and all creation finds its meaning and purpose in relation to Him. Our lives, too, have their true source and significance in Christ alone. Every breath we take, every moment of our existence, is sustained by His power and love.
However, to partake in His power and love, we must be born into His family by His Holy Spirit. Without this spiritual rebirth, we remain spiritually dead, separated from God by our sins. As Paul writes in Ephesians 2:1-3, we were once dead in our trespasses, living in disobedience and following the ways of the world. But through Christ, we are made alive—He forgave our sins and gave us new life (Colossians 2:13).
This new life is a resurrection from spiritual death, just as Christ was raised from the dead. As 1 Corinthians 15:21-22 explains, through Adam came death, but through Christ comes the resurrection of life. When we accept Jesus as Lord, we are born again, becoming new creations in Him (2 Corinthians 5:17). This transformation is the work of Christ, who reconciled us to God and gave us the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18).
Christ is not only the origin of life but Life itself, the giver of life to all who follow Him. He holds the keys to death and Hades, having authority over all things (Revelation 1:18). His supremacy extends beyond creation to the new creation, as He is the head of the Church, the body of believers reconciled to God through His sacrifice.
Christ, the firstborn from the dead, guarantees the resurrection of all who are in Him. His death and resurrection have made peace by the blood of His cross, reconciling all things to Himself. In Christ, the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, revealing God’s complete and undiminished essence to the world.
As believers, we are called to a life of reverence, worship, and commitment to Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God and the one who holds all things together. His great love compels us to live not for ourselves but for Him. In Christ, we find everything we need for life and godliness. He is our life-giving source, and as we draw near to Him, we live in the fullness of the life He has given us, rejoicing in the hope of His glory. Through Him, we experience the fullness of life, both now and forever, resting in the assurance that He is all we need.
