In the absence of serious pressure from the US, Israel likely plans to indefinitely occupy Gaza, where settler outposts could even emerge, warns journalist and author Antony Loewenstein.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Loewenstein, who wrote The Palestine Laboratory, compared Israel's strategy in Gaza with its approach in the occupied West Bank, where it strengthened its control of the territory for years while drawn-out peace negotiations took place.
