Aya Brea, the series' protagonist, as she attempts to save humanity from the Twisted, a horrific enemy that has destroyed much of Manhattan. Aya is a member of the Counter Twisted Investigation (CTI), an investigatory team formed to fight the Twisted. Two years before the game's events, Aya was found unconscious and suffering from amnesia. To alter the outcome of battles against the Twisted, Aya uses her Overdive ability to travel back in time. She also tries to regain her memories and learn the origin of the Twisted.
