Dune vs. Lord of the Rings

J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is possibly the most iconic fantasy tale of all time. Dune is certainly one of the biggest sprawling sci-fi fantasies ever. While they are vastly different, and I'll get into those various reasons and aspects, they can also be compared in some pretty fascinating ways.
