The Essentials of Christianity - Ravi Chandran

In this video, Ravi shares a message entitled "The Essentials of Christianity. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1:22-25, "The Jews demand signs, and the Greeks seek wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to the Jews, and foolishness to the Gentiles; but to them which God hath called, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of men, and the weakness of God is stronger than the strength of men.

The message of the gospel has always been perplexing to human philosophy. The natural elements of science in terms of time, space, and matter determine most of our scientific and philosophical approach to life. The essential message of the gospel concerning death, burial, and resurrection does not seem to fit into this category. Yet, according to Paul, Jews look for signs of the Messiah, while Greeks look for intellectual understanding. (That which "makes sense".) These ways of thinking about understanding clash with the message of the gospel, death, burial, and resurrection. Why such a gloomy approach and why not "spice it up" to look more attractive and customer friendly?

As Christians, if we take the time to observe just the essentials of the message of Christianity, two-thirds of our gospel is "bad" news. Why did God choose it that way? It is not the most promising marketing technique by today's standards. Yet this "foolishness" of God is wiser than men, and the "weakness" of God is stronger than men. Come this Sunday and hear more about why it is essential to die to self in order to live for Christ, and experience the power of God made perfect in our weakness.
