I just picked up my son at the airport and as I was sitting in traffic on the way home, I noticed a large billboard on a major Dallas freeway. GlaxoSmithKline, the pharmaceutical company that makes a shingles vaccine called Shingrix, is promoting this vaccine and all you must do to get it is go a pharmacy. Pharmacists give shots? No prescription? No doctor? And vaccinations aren’t the only thing pharmacists are being trained to do. Join me Friday from 11AM-Noon Central Time and wear your thinking caps. Although we will always need them clinically, I believe that physicians are jobs are slowly being minimized while pharmacists’ jobs are being maximized to the point of even prescribing certain medications without a prescription or a doctor.
