Comic book afficionados have all heard of the Green Lanterns and the Green Lantern Corps. Created in 1959 by John Broome and Gil Kane from an earlier magical iteration, the modern idea of Green Lantern was published in 1959 with the introduction of Hal Jordan. Essentially, the new Green Lanterns were a police force created by an ancient and powerful race of beings from the planet Oa. Their main weapon in combating crime and evil were the power rings gifted to the Lanterns by the Oans.
