'Foreign Interference': The scam that never sleeps

This week, the U.S. and Canadian Ambassadors to Mexico provoked a diplomatic furor when they criticized a reform to Mexico's judicial system. The proposal, which is backed by Mexican President Manuel Lopez Obrador, provides that Mexico's judges, including Supreme Court justices, will be elected by popular vote. In response to the criticisms of the U.S. and Canadian governments, Mexico's President insisted that the U.S. and Canada had disrespected Mexico's sovereignty. Accordingly, he temporarily suspended relations with their Embassies in Mexico.

Meanwhile, in yet another display of Western hypocrisy, Canada proceeded with a judicial inquiry into alleged foreign interference in Canada's democratic processes and institutions. The prime suspect in the Canadian inquiry is the People's Republic of China (PRC).

On August 30, Dimitri Lascaris spoke with Jonathan Dai, the founding president of Canada-China Council for Cooperation and Development. Dai and Lascaris examined whether the allegations against China are supported by credible, objective and independent evidence. They also discussed the true motivation behind Canadian government allegations of foreign interference by the PRC, and the impacts these allegations are having on the well-being and security of Chinese-Canadians.

In June of this year, Lascaris analyzed critically a Parliamentary report that identified the PRC as the main source of foreign interference in Canada's democratic processes and institutions.
