3D Review: Bwana Devil (1952) The "first" 3D movie

Bwana Devil

With a few disclaimers and asterixis this is the first 3D movie and the project responsible for the 3D craze of 1953. The fruits of which we get to relive today largely thanks to the efforts of the 3D Archive who are eagerly at work restoring the past for the future.

Firsts are always a fascinating subject. Would this be worth remembering if it wasn't in 3D? If this wasn't made when would 3D have exploded on the Hollywood scene? Or, perhaps this shot 3D into the mainstream too early? If it had been delayed maybe the technology would have been more refined and robust when the craze hit - leading to a longer or even permanent stay. Maybe it was too early? Who knows...
