Depression Tip #5: Sleep, Sleep, Sleep!💙
Depression tip number five is to get good sleep. I believe that good sleep is the cornerstone of physical and mental health. But what can you do if you don't sleep properly? Well, there are several things you can do, and an umbrella term for all the things you can do is called sleep hygiene.💙
There are several elements to sleep hygiene. The first one is to have a good evening routine. So you do the same things at roughly the same time each evening, and your brain then knows, oh, okay, we do this, then this, then we brush our teeth, then we get into bed, and then it's time to sleep.💙
By the same token, try to avoid exercising several hours before sleep because that does the opposite. That revs up your system, makes it more difficult to get to sleep. And if you're going to have caffeinated coffee, have it in the morning so that there's no caffeine or very little caffeine in your system to keep you awake at night.💙
Also, your bedroom should be optimized for sleep. So it should be dark at night, and there shouldn't be excess light sources. And it should also be cool.💙
