The Green Lanterns' main weapons in combating crime and evil were the power rings gifted to the Lanterns by the Oans. It had a wide range of abilities, but the rings drew from their bearers' minds those abilities.
The Lensman, however, were uplifted with abilities by the lenses granted to them by the Arisians. Not specifically a weapon, the lenses were tools in communication and spycraft.
Similarities between the circumstances, however, fuel the speculation that power rings were inspired by lenses.
