Isaiah 15
The Moabites were descendants of Lot and his eldest daughter.

(Gen 19:31-37).

Isaiah is going to pronounce the judgment of Moab. Moab may seem insignificant compared to Babylon or Assyria, but they were actually an important nation for hundreds of years. Remember that Ruth was a Moabite. That means that David was one-fourth Moabite himself. The Moabites were often invaded. They totally disappeared as a separate and distinct people shortly after the time of Yeshua. This land is now desolate. But at one time it was very fruitful.

Isa 15:1 The oracle concerning Moab. Surely in a night Ar of Moab is devastated and ruined; Surely in a night Kir of Moab is devastated and ruined.

Moab's burden came "in the night." that means it was sudden. They did not suspect it at all. Their burden was quick and harsh and they did not stop weeping.

Isa 15:2 They have gone up to the temple and to Dibon, even to the high places to weep. Moab wails over Nebo and Medeba; Everyone's head is bald and every beard is cut off.

The Moabites professed some kind of faith in or knowledge of Elohim, but it was only a superficial act. The Moabites worshiped Chemosh and Baal Peor, to whom they offered human sacrifices and practiced a sexual cult. Their "high places" were where they practiced their idolatry and sexual depravity. To cut off the hair and the beard was a form of worshiping the dead and worshiping false gods. Elohim does not permit such acts.
(Lev 19:27-28, Deut 14:1).

Isa 16:6 We have heard of the pride of Moab, an excessive pride; Even of his arrogance, pride, and fury; His idle boasts are false.

The pride of Moab was their downfall. They rejected Elohim's offer of mercy. They trusted in their own righteousness instead of the mercy of Elohim.

(Jer 48:29-30).
