Germany to implement temporary controls on all land borders

Germany's government announced plans to impose tighter controls at all of the country's land borders in what it called an attempt to tackle irregular migration and protect the public from threats such as Islamist extremism.

German police carried out random checks at the border with Austria after the government in Berlin announced plans to introduce tighter controls at all of its land borders from September 16, set to initially last for six months.
