IMCANADA Grassroots Democracy Round Table

Alexandra Wright, NDP MLA Harwinder Sandhu, Independent Candidate Kevin Acton, and at least one other guest will define, debate and discuss the demise of local, grassroots participatory democracy. Events and circumstances surrounding the decision of BC United Party to halt its 2024 election campaign while throwing all nominated candidates figuratively 'under the bus' will be reviewed.

The rise of a significant, and growing, number of independent candidates is a factor in BC politics that has not been seen since inception of the party system.

Will voters embrace this new model for electing their own representatives and will any, or all, of the traditional political parties be punished at the polls for seemingly abandoning the local voter base in the candidate selection process?

A recently filed lawsuit at BC's Supreme Court by one of the participants may also be a topic for discussion.
