Inside an ancient alien monolith, Sara Ryder and her father Alec uncover a mysterious terminal. In a desperate bid to stabilize the lightning-ravaged planet, Alec activates the device, unleashing a massive blast that hurls them both from the platform. The impact shatters Sara’s helmet, exposing her to the planet’s toxic atmosphere. In a heartbreaking act of sacrifice, Alec removes his own helmet and gives it to Sara, saving her life at the cost of his own. When Sara regains consciousness, she discovers she has been revived and merged with the AI SAM. With Alec's final, selfless act, Sara is named the new Pathfinder, suddenly responsible for the fate of their entire mission...
