A clandestine Masonic lodge is one that operates outside the official recognition and regulation of established Masonic bodies. In Freemasonry, recognition and regularity are key concepts. Regular lodges are those that follow established Masonic practices, principles, and traditions, and are recognized by a Grand Lodge that is itself recognized by other legitimate Grand Lodges worldwide.

Clandestine lodges, on the other hand, are not recognized by any legitimate Grand Lodge. They might have been formed without proper authority, or they may have broken away from a recognized Masonic body and continued to operate independently. These lodges often lack the oversight and regulation that ensures adherence to Masonic standards, which can lead to deviations in rituals, practices, and teachings.
