There will always be the poor.

Deuteronomy 15:11 For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’

Matthew 26:11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.

This is pretty big news for God the Son and God the Father to say. We are commanded to love one another. What better way is there to love others than to care for the poor after providing for their needs? Love is an action, not a warm fuzzy feeling. We may think the poor need us—and they do—but the truth is WE NEED THE POOR to help us learn to love one another.
