How to Study Your Bible Part 3: Understanding the Parable of the Fig Tree, Stephen’s Death, and Peter’s Role in Opening the Door to Gentiles

Summary:
So far, we have seen that Jesus, John the Baptist, and the 12 Apostles preached the gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven. Paul preached the gospel of Christ to the Gentiles. We must rightly divide these two gospels to understand the Bible truly. Today, we will examine the parable of the fig tree and how it relates to the timing of Stephen’s death. Then, we will see God using Peter to open a door to Gentiles that he did not want to go through, but it paved the way for Paul to preach his gospel.

The stoning of Stephen was the straw the broke the camel’s back. From this point God would hide his face from Israel as a nation, and turn to the Gentiles.

Takeaway:
God used Peter to unlock the door for the Gentile's salvation. The dunging of the fig tree had ended, and the tree would not bear fruit. God cut it down, blinded Israel, and turned to the Gentiles who would believe. This ushers in a 2,000-year gap in the prophetic program for Israel called the dispensation of grace. Next week, we’ll explore the mystery God revealed to Paul and how he later revealed the truth to Peter to explain the timing of events and why the Lord would tarry His return.
