Mossad pager attack: Hundreds of pagers held by Hezbollah members simultaneously explode

The pagers used in the Lebanon bombings were made in Europe, Gold Apollo founder Hsu Ching-Kuang said. He said they were manufactured by a company that had the right to use the Taiwanese firm's brand.

The Mossad was able to insert Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate (a powerful high explosive) into the batteries of new pagers that Hezbollah began using around February, before they fell into the hands of Hezbollah members, allowing them to remotely overheat and explode the lithium battery inside the device.

— Another senior Lebanese source told Reuters the devices had been modified by the Israeli spy service "at the manufacturing level."
According to him, Mossad inserted a plate with explosive material into the device, which receives a code. Such a device is very difficult to detect even with a special scanner. In total, about 5,000 pagers were filled with explosives.

— The US authorities were not informed in advance about the Israeli operation, Axios reports, citing US officials. According to the publication, a few minutes before the pagers began to explode, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant called US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin and told him that Israel was going to carry out an operation in Lebanon in the near future. He declined to provide any specific details.

— State Department Press Secretary Matthew Miller also reports that the US did not know about this operation and did not participate in it. According to him, the US is “still collecting information” about the explosions in Lebanon.

— According to media reports, the operation paralyzed a significant part of Hezbollah’s military command and control system. Hezbollah accused Israel of
attack and promised revenge.

— In total, 4,000 people were injured in the attack, 11 of whom died. At the same time, Hezbollah confirmed the death of eight of its members. Today is a day of mourning in Lebanon.
