I missed you all! My sister’s daughter, Emilie married Michael in a beautiful ceremony in Sedona, Arizona and all of we Kaufmann’s gathered to celebrate their marriage! It was so wonderful! My wife and I then went to Texas Hill Country for 3 meetings and just arrived home, safe and sound.
With all of this traveling, I discovered that we’ve nearly missed the Center For Disease Control’s (CDC) annual event to raise awareness about fungal diseases. The event takes place from Sept 16-20 this year. It used to be called “Think Fungus,” but the name has changed to “Fungal Disease Awareness Week,” or FDAW! Each day of this week, the CDC is discussing a different fungal topic, and it is not coincidental that on Wednesday, September 19th the topic is, “Lung infections won’t go away? Learn about fungal infections today.” One would logically think that it is the doctor’s job to consider a “differential diagnosis” when antibiotics don’t work for a lung infection, but since “pulmonary mycoses” (lung fungal infections) are seemingly not well taught during medical training, the onus apparently falls on we patients to open communications with our doctor about common lung fungal diseases’, which broad-spectrum antibiotics may actually accelerate. Hence the CDC’s fungal education, marketed directly to us in hopes that we ask our doctors about fungus.
