Rethinking War: Oliver Stone's Call for Truth and Courage in Media and Writing

Oliver Stone's advice to media professionals and writers: "You have the freedom to critique your government and society. There's no need to conform. It may be trendy to criticize Republicans and Trump while overlooking the actions of the Obamas and Clintons, but keep this in mind: over the past 30 years, we've initiated 13 wars, spent $14 trillion, and witnessed the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives—not due to a single leader, but because of a system that includes both Republicans and Democrats. This system, often referred to as the military-industrial, security, financial, and media complex, has thrived under the pretense that these conflicts are justifiable in the name of our flag, which proudly flies over our lives. We need not dwell on the victims, yet it's clear we've intervened in over 100 countries through invasions, regime changes, and economic turmoil. I have opposed those who perpetuate warfare for most of my life, and it can be an exhausting battle. You will likely face significant criticism and insults, as well as some praise. However, if you truly believe in your message and remain steadfast, you can effect change. Instead of seeking what the masses desire for success, focus on discovering the deeper meaning of your existence here on earth, and never waver in your pursuit of peace, integrity, and honesty."
