RetroInspection - First Lensman - pt 5

Despite some pretty harsh misgivings about the First Lensman, there is much to celebrate in the work of a clear genius. Smith's treatment of alien life forms goes well beyond the idea of men in monkey suits with antennae popping out of their heads.
In one instance, Smith creates a life form that was so out of the ordinary for the time of pulp science fiction that he clearly inspired other authors to think beyond their normal biases about life and what comprises it.
