Today’s history is a lot of fun, This was the day in 1978 when the song “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” hit the billboard number 1. The song was originally solo recordings by Neil Diamond and Barbara Streisand. But a program director in Louisville Kentucky by the name of Gary Guthrie, spliced together the two solo versions and created a duet. And this inspired Roy Leonard from WGN in Chicago to make his own version. And These were so popular that more DJ’s created their own versions eventually pushing the record company to get Diamond and Streisand to record an official studio duet version. And that is the version that hit the top in 1978 and eventually went platinum.
