Mike Scott was born in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1990 to 2012. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska, Omaha in 1997 and a graduate degree from Central Michigan University in 2004. His career experience includes being self-employed. He also served at the Pentagon twice. Scott has been affiliated with the VFW, DAV, American Legion, his Church, Americans for Safe Access, and the World Combat Academy.
