Intelligence staff for 3rd Battalion, Chernarus 24th Separate Light Mountain Rifle Brigade, received reports that a large enemy mixed infantry force was advancing from the north via Heidmuler and Rockhausen towards the village of Ausbach. Friendly local militia had encountered some of the enemy's spearheads, capturing some of their scouts. Following their interrogation, it was revealed that the separatists were planning to take over the town of Ausbach as a spoiling operation to prevent friendly units from flanking enemy forces to the West.
A light infantry task force was dispatched, including four light rifle squads, and two T-34 tanks, all with instructions to be prepared to defend against enemy attacks on Ausbach. The march took 40 minutes in intermittent moderate rain
Ausbach is situated on a ridge which slopes down to the south into a valley. The task force commander deployed all of this infantry in a straight line running east to west with excellent fields of views of the village. Tank 1 was deployed along an eastern Road overlooking that road in another one, while Tank 2 deployed on a high ridge overlooking the village.
While entering their area of operation, 2nd Squad encountered Russian militia, and Command Squad encountered an Wagner operated gunship. As the task force deployed for the defense of the village, commander begin requesting artillery missions aimed at the northern approaches to the village. Despite this, Command Squad fought off attacks from Serbian regulars as they attempted to approach the town from the northwest.
Meanwhile, Tank 1 fought off attacks by Russian naval infantry special forces. 2nd Squad similarly fought against attacks by other special ops units, suffering heavy casualties and being forced to pull back. Reinforcing Rifle Squad 1 took up 2nd Squad's position and continued their fight.
In the end, the task force prevented separatists from taking over the town. Commander launched artillery smoke missions to cover the withdrawal of 3rd Squad and Reinforcing Rifle Squad 1. Command Squad and Reinforcing Rifle Squad 1 launched a counterattack, which kept enemy forces at bay as the task force withdrew in good order.
In the return march to base, Command Squad and 2nd Squad encountered an enemy patrol, driving them out of the area.
Losses were moderate. Second Squad, 3rd Squad, and 4th Squad each lost five. Command Squad lost one. Reinforcing Rifle Squad 1 lost two, and Reinforcing Rifle Squad 2 lost one.
Field counts of enemy losses included three BRDM scout cars, two BMPs, and one Mi-8 gunship
The operation successfully prevented the enemy from realizing their plans, and through the amount of damage inflicted, put separatist forces at a disadvantage.
