Malaysian lawyer and law professor Gurdial Singh Nijar was chief prosecutor at 'the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal' established by former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. In 2011, George Bush and Tony Blair were convicted for the illegal invasion of Iraq. This was followed in 2013 by a historical judgment against the state of Israel and defense minister Amos Yaron for crimes against humanity, which were committed in September 1982 in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in the Israeli-occupied territories of Lebanon. An impressive number of witnesses testified in front of the Tribunal in Kuala Lumpur and the proceedings were based on the guidelines of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague. However, the Western mainstream press and the ICJ largely ignored these efforts.
