Why I think atheism is on the rise is because the God of the old testament seems to be angry and vindictive to anyone that hasn't really tried to understand all that is happening in antiquity while viewing it from a post-modern lens. Also, there is a lack of understanding of the love and mercy of God that is clearly emphasized in the new testament but is also seen in the old testament...
