Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Addresses Media at 19th Francophonie Summit in Paris #trudeau #canada
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addresses questions from reporters in Paris, where he is participating in the 19th Francophonie Summit. So, basically, what’s going on is Canada is super concerned about the situation in the Middle East right now. Things have gotten really tense, and they’ve spoken out strongly against Iran for launching a direct military strike against Israel. They’re saying this escalation isn’t helping anyone and it’s just making things worse. Canada, along with the other G7 countries, is calling for an immediate ceasefire, trying to stop the violence before it spirals even further out of control. They also want to make sure civilians are protected and that humanitarian aid can get to the people who really need it.
At the same time, they’re acknowledging that Israel had to defend itself after the terrorist attack by Hamas earlier in October. But even though they recognize Israel's right to defend itself, Canada’s still stressing the importance of international law and trying to protect civilians as much as possible. They’re pushing for peace, and they’re really pushing for a two-state solution—basically, a secure and peaceful Israel alongside a recognized Palestinian state.
On top of all that, there’s been growing concern about the situation in Lebanon. The Canadian government has been urging Canadians there to leave while they still can. There have already been bombings near the airport, so they’re worried that things could get worse, and that it might become really difficult for people to get out. They’ve been organizing flights to help Canadians leave and are telling people to take advantage of those now before it becomes even riskier. They’re also working with other countries like the U.S. and Australia to help with the evacuation effort.
It’s pretty serious, and the message is clear: things need to calm down quickly, and everyone’s hoping for a ceasefire to prevent further escalation. Standing alongside Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly, Trudeau discusses Canada's role in fostering international cooperation within the Francophone community. The press conference covers a range of topics, including foreign policy, Canada's commitment to linguistic and cultural diversity, and global issues facing Francophonie members. Trudeau and Joly highlight Canada's dedication to working collaboratively with other nations to promote peace, human rights, and sustainable development within the Francophone world.
