Shallow aquascape low tech betta tank

A shallow, low-tech aquascape Betta tank is designed to replicate a serene, natural environment, ideal for both the Betta fish and easy maintenance. The tank is used was 45cm x 24cm x 19cm, with a shallow depth of around 8 inches to allow for ample surface area and maximize light penetration for plants.

Substrate and Plants: The bottom is lined with aquatic soil on top of a natural-looking sand and finish it with a little bit sprinkled fine gravel to look more natural. Hardy, low-maintenance aquatic plants like Anubias, and Thuidium (fern moss) etc. are anchored to rocks and driftwood, providing shelter and shade. These plants thrive without the need for CO2 injection, making it truly low-tech.

Hardscape: The centerpiece could be a multiple piece of driftwood stick together with a aquatic glue with a black lava rocks, giving the tank a natural flow while maintaining open swimming space for the Betta. The hardscape adds visual interest while maintaining a peaceful, balanced feel.

Filtration and Lighting: The setup uses a seachem matrix for the biological filtration in a DIY cannister filter with the tubing hiding at the back of the driftwood, which provides best filtration and minimizes water movement, perfect for Betta fish that prefer calmer waters. The lighting is a soft, low-wattage LED light to mimic natural sunlight, encouraging plant growth without overwhelming the tank or requiring high-tech adjustments.

Aesthetic: The aquascape aims for a minimalist, zen-like aesthetic, blending simplicity with nature. The Betta’s vivid colors pop against the lush green plants and natural substrate, creating a soothing underwater scene that's low maintenance but visually stunning.
