Iron Meat | Retro Shooting Perfection

Hello Im Skill Incarnate and Welcome to My Games Review Series.
My reviews cover indie games that i have bought, had gifted to me and have been provided by developers for review. In this episode I check out one of the best Retro Shooters that ive completed, with Iron Meat on the PlayStation and Steam.

This game was developed and published by Retroware, the talented development team behind another amazing Retro Platformer Prison City.
Iron Meat is a love letter to the 16 Bit Era, taking inspiration from classic action shooters like Contra and Turrican.

The game takes place in an alternate future, where illegal experiments taking place on the surface of the moon have resulted in the birth of the Meat, an deadly biological weapon, which swiftly infects its creator, Professor Yuri Markov, and spreads accross the moon. The infected Professor has taken control of a Teleporter to earth, unleashing an army of monsters, that are a twisted fusion of flesh and machine. The player controls Vadim, a soldier with the impossible mission to destroy the Meats hordes and liberate the earth.

Iron meat takes the formula that Retroware established in their previous title Prison City and improves upon it in every way, creating an extremely streamlined shooter boasting a unique body horror theme, colourful graphics and some sharp controls. Players are challenged to complete the games 9 Levels with unique environments such as a forest, a moving train and the surface of the moon. However the best feature is the games cooparative mode, allowing two players to play the entire campaign
together.

While Iron Meat is a little light on additional features, it is still one of the finest retro shooters on the Playstation and Steam. I highly recommend this to fellow retro platformer fans who enjoyed Retrowares other titles, and fans of 16 bit retro shooters.
